Xenomorph Sculpture from "Alien" TV Series to Be Sold as 500 NFTs
The iconic "Necronom" sculpture, birthed from the imagination of Swiss artist Hans Rudolf Giger for the film "Alien 3," has been tokenized into NFTs on the Particle platform.
The artwork has been digitized into 500 individual NFTs, set to go on sale starting June 16. With a going rate of 1000 dollars per non-fungible token, the debut valuation of "Necronom" stands at a whopping 500,000 dollars.
Each NFT signifies a digital sliver of the sculpture, immortalized on the blockchain, accounting for 1/500th part of the ownership of the artwork. As mentioned by Particle's CEO Harold Eitan, this is the inaugural piece among six in the collection dedicated to Giger.
Furthermore, the CEO revealed that the sculpture was acquired from a private collector based in Germany. Post its display at the Species exhibition in the Mai36 gallery in Zurich, the collector chose to part with it, selling it to Particle. Previously, this notable work was a proud member of a private collection at Giger's museum in Switzerland.
Beyond "Necronom," the platform also offers fractional NFTs of Banksy's celebrated work "Love is in the Air." Holders of these distinctive tokens can secure fragments of the Alien sculpture at a cost of 800 dollars apiece. Additionally, owners of the "Love is in the Air" NFT were granted early access to procure "Necronom" NFTs at a special event held in Lisbon.

About the "Necronom" sculpture
Hans Giger's sculpture "Necronom" was conceived for the 1992 film "Alien 3". However, it was used in an unfinished state in the film, with the artist only completing the work in 2005. In 2011, he created another sculpture based on an earlier prototype. It's this latter version that is being presented on the Particle platform.
The sinewy alien with an elongated head and curved tail is crafted from steel and polyester resin. The life-sized sculpture, measuring 110 x 78 x 220 cm, encapsulates the artist's unique style and stands as an icon of visual culture and Giger's most famous work.
The artistic concept Giger introduced was a revelation in the horror genre of cinema at the time. Before 1979, films often featured stereotypical monsters such as maniacs, vampires, and ghosts. Giger created something previously unseen, marking a pivotal moment in the history of sci-fi horrors. The Alien became a revolutionary and memorable figure in the depiction of extraterrestrials in art.
