🔥 YouTube Draws the Line: No Aid for OpenAI

YouTube's CEO, Neal Mohan, has made it clear that OpenAI is forbidden from using YouTube user content to train its AI model, Sora, capable of creating short videos based on textual inputs. Mohan emphasized that this goes against YouTube's service terms.
From a creatorβs perspective, when a creator uploads their hard work to our platform, they have certain expectations. One of those expectations is that the terms of service is going to be abided by. It does not allow for things like transcripts or video bits to be downloaded,Mohan remarked.
While there is no concrete evidence that the OpenAI intended to or has already used YouTube clips, the platform's management preemptively clarified its stance. This is especially pertinent given AI models' tendency to automatically collect internet data without significant service-specific filtration.
Mira Murati, OpenAI's CTO, has not clarified whether YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram's user content was or will be used for Sora's training. This issue has surfaced amid rumors that GPT-5's training could incorporate YouTube video transcriptions.
