Ukraine loves NFT, and it’s ready to prove that by turning its war-time postage stamps into non-fungible tokens.
As Ukraine continues to fight off the Russian aggressor, the country looks to adopt a law that would enable it to turn postage stamps into non-fungible tokens (NFT).

On April 11, the CEO of Ukrposhta, the national Ukrainian post service, Igor Smelyansky wrote in his Telegram Channel that the Ukrainian Parliament the Verkhovna Rada approved the “NFT postage stamp” bill.

“This law would enable Ukraine to become one of the first countries worldwide to launch NFT postage stamps and most importantly to raise substantial funds for our Ukrainian Armed Forces so that we can very soon launch a digital postage stamp devoted to our victory. Meanwhile, we’re awaiting the second reading and are prepping,” he wrote.

While the date of the second reading is yet to be announced, let’s take a look at the postage stamps that could be soon turned into NFTs.

1. “Russian warship, go….!”

On April 12, 2022, Ukraine released the first war-time postage stamp based on a now-iconic audio recording. In it, a Ukrainian border guard located on the Zmiiny island in the Black Sea refuses to surrender to the Russian warship, using a well-known profanity in Russian. Within the first 24 hours of the launch, Ukraine sold 800 copies.

2. Are you “team pup”? Even if not, this postage stamp will not leave you indifferent. On Sep.1, 2022, Ukrposhta released a postage stamp in a tribute to Pes Patron, a Ukrainian Jack Russel who gained prominence thanks to his sharp sniffing that helps Ukrainian rescuers demine their territory.

3. A postage stamp “Good evening, we’re from Ukraine” is another example of Ukraine’s good humor in war times. Depicting a real-life case of a Ukrainian tractor towing away a Russian tank, it is one of the most beloved postage stamps created in 2022

4. But it’s not just good humor that Ukrainians managed to encapsulate in their postage stamps. It’s trolling too. After Ukraine successfully struck the illegally-built bridge connecting the Russian mainland with the Crimean peninsula illegally annexed by Russia in 2014, Ukrposhta issued a postage stamp with the iconic Titanic scene where Leo holds Kate in the front of the ship.

5. On November 11, 2022, Ukraine liberated the city of Kherson, the only administrative center of the country that Russia managed to capture in the early days of the full-scale war. Located in Southern Ukraine, the city is best known for its ripe watermelons. So, it’s only natural that they were central to the postage stamp dedicated to its liberation.

The latest postage stamp released by Ukrposhta is dedicated to the Kalush Orchestra band that won Eurovision 2022. Because of the war, however, the competition will take place in Liverpool.
