⚡ Samsung Aims to Overtake TSMC in the Chip Game

South Korean tech behemoth Samsung Electronics is setting its sights on surpassing Taiwanese chip titan TSMC and becoming the first to manufacture chips using 2-nanometer technology in the US. In pursuit of this goal, Samsung is channeling approximately $40 billion into research and the modernization of its Texas facility, projecting to outpace its rival by two years.
Additionally, under U.S. law, Samsung is poised to receive up to $6.4 billion in direct investment subsidies. This sum is just slightly less than the non-repayable grants that TSMC secured for its new plant in Arizona. Samsung has also undertaken to supply chips to the U.S. Department of Defense.
U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo remarked, "We are now making these investments which will allow the United States to once again lead the world, not just in semiconductor designβ.β.β.βbut also in manufacturing, advanced packaging, and research and development."
The U.S. government anticipates that by 2030, America's share of the global semiconductor production will reach 20%, aiming to lessen dependence on East Asia amid potential natural disasters or military conflicts. Previously, Intel also received financial support from the government.
