OpenAI has rolled out an update for its artificial intelligence chatbot, ChatGPT, which includes a new memory feature. This allows the bot to remember and store certain information from conversations for future interactions. Initially, access to this update will be granted only to a select group of users before becoming available to everyone.

The memory function will be enabled by default, but users will have the flexibility to deactivate it, erase specific pieces of information, or wipe the memory completely. However, removing individual conversations won't affect the information already stored. Additionally, OpenAI has clarified that specialized chatbots, such as Books GPT, won't share data with the memory used in general chats, and vice versa.
ChatGPT’s memory will get better the more you use it and you’ll start to notice the improvements over time,
the company has announced.
In light of privacy concerns, OpenAI has recognized the potential risks involved. As a countermeasure, a memory-free chat option and configurable settings will be introduced, and ChatGPT will be designed to refrain from retaining overly personal information. The company also confirmed that these data would be used to refine its language models, except for those derived from business clients.
