In a conversation with analysts, Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, confirmed the company's active engagement in Artificial Intelligence (AI) development. This revelation came during a discussion about Apple's quarterly financial report.

"As we look ahead, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future. That includes artificial intelligence, where we continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort, and we’re excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year," Cook said in his prepared remarks.

This announcement has been eagerly awaited by the Apple community and tech aficionados, as Apple has appeared to be playing catch-up in the AI sector. This notion was further cemented by Microsoft's recent leap over Apple in market capitalization, likely propelled by its AI initiatives.

There had been indications that Apple was developing an in-house generative AI named Ajax, based on Google's framework, but solely for its internal purposes.
