Today, the European Commission has announced the initiation of an investigation into Apple and Alphabet (Google) concerning the alleged illegal preferences extended to their app stores, as reported by the Financial Times.

Additionally, the Commission is scrutinizing Google's Shopping and Flights services to determine if they are unfairly prioritized in search results.

Meta is also under the spotlight, as the company is being investigated for utilizing users' personal data for advertising purposes.

The EU's Executive Vice President for Digital Policy stated that these are serious cases; had they been solvable through mere discussions, they would have already been resolved. The implicated companies might face significant fines.

This investigation, focused on adhering to the Digital Markets Act, is expected to be completed within the year.
