Cybersecurity experts at Singapore's Group-IB have uncovered GoldPickaxe, a new trojan preying on iOS users. The trojan harvests a range of data, from personal and financial details to biometric information, later used in AI-generated deepfakes.

Criminals exploit this data to unlawfully access various financial services, including crypto exchanges and credit organizations. Originally an Android-focused virus, GoldPickaxe has been adapted for iOS, overcoming the usual barriers to this platform.

Victims are tricked into installing a Mobile Device Management (MDM) profile via TestFlight, allowing the trojan full access to their devices. Presently, the threat is confined to Thailand and Vietnam, but its operators could soon shift focus to other regions.
