For the first time, the Security Service of Ukraine managed to block the cryptocurrency wallet of a Russian “volunteer” who was collecting money for military equipment for the separatists in the east of the country. The balance on the account was more than 800,000 hryvnias.
Companies that monitor violations in the crypto world have been tracking such situations for a long time. Chainalysis reported on 54 similar organizations operating in the occupied territories and collecting money to sponsor military aggression. The total sum of such “investments” amounted to more than 2.2 million dollars.

Law enforcement agencies, led by the Security Service of Ukraine, completed an operation during which the funds were arrested. The money was intended for terrorist organizations. The wallet holder had been collecting money since the beginning of the military invasion and transferring it to militants in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions

He regularly posted messages on social media, encouraging people to donate money, and providing reports. The identity of the so-called volunteer is still a secret. It is known that he is accused of financing terrorism.

Details of the operation are still confidential, but the press service of the police reported that the operation was carried out with the help of foreign crypto companies. The arrested account had about $22,000 (UAH 800,000). Now the issue of transferring the funds under the control of Ukraine is under consideration. Since this is the first time such an operation has been conducted, and the legal framework is not yet ready to quickly resolve such cases, the withdrawal procedure may take several months.
