Sam Altman made a notable appearance at the Future of AI Summit. Remarkably, the CEO of OpenAI deemed AI a tool capable of eradicating global poverty, and in the same breath, declared it could bring about the end of humanity.
The entire speech centered around the future of artificial intelligence and its prospective societal impact. Sam shared his reflections and experiences from his travels to various parts of the globe, where he engaged with both users and developers.

"There's a bunch of specific feedback, more than 100 pages of notes from meeting with developers about complaints people have or things they want," he shared.

Altman was also part of a group of AI experts that convened with President Joe Biden in San Francisco earlier this spring. Moreover, OpenAI's CEO also journeyed to Washington for discussions with various senators.
If this technology goes wrong, it can go quite wrong,
Altman cautioned them.
During the Future of AI Summit, Sam examined the potential of artificial intelligence in areas such as education, healthcare, and scientific advancement. While recognizing the perils associated with the proliferation of AI, he underscored the crucial role of human intuition in averting the most detrimental outcomes. Given the exponential growth of technology, he emphasized the need to continuously assess bottlenecks and promptly counteract any dangerous tendencies.
I think it’d be good to end poverty. But we’re going to have to manage the risk to get there,
Altman conveyed.
To coordinate responses to the potential risks linked with AI, Sam and his organization advocate for the swift creation of a regulatory framework for this rapidly advancing industry. The key challenge lies in finding a balance between legislative constraints and fostering innovation. Altman opines that small startups and open-source initiatives shouldn't be burdened with excessive regulation. He advocates for incorporating certification systems and external audits in the AI development process to ensure safety and accountability.

Indirectly addressing Elon Musk's worries about potential control by Microsoft, OpenAI's CEO clarifies that their collaboration primarily grants access to Microsoft's data center, not control over finances.
They could break the contract and take away our access to the data center,
Sam explains.
Although Altman admits that no partnership is free from difficulties, he describes his cooperation with Bill Gates as the most fulfilling of all his collaborative endeavors.

Gagarin News had previously reported that the single, most significant threat of AI is the possibility of China achieving global AI supremacy, while the United States and the West fail to do so.
