Grok Turns Against Musk?

Musk was exhilarated to unveil Grok which is supposed to be OpenAI ChatGPT’s chief competitor. But it appears that some things didn’t go to plan.
Remember the time Elon Musk was very excited, saying that he’s putting an end to OpenAI and their ChatGPT? If not, here’s your chance of reminding oneself

If yes, here’s what the gist is all about.

When Musk unveiled Grok in November, he promised that it’d be funny, anti-woke, and give you info in real-time. Particularly, Musk lambasted ChatGPT by tweeting “when it comes to humor, GPT-4 is about as funny as a screen door on a submarine. Humor is clearly banned at OpenAI, just like the many other subjects it censors.”
However, half a month into it, it doesn’t look like its “window on a submarine” is any funnier. Some observers, like the Verge, have pointed out that it’s trying so hard to be funny that it’s actually the opposite.

Such was, for example, the case with the now infamous recipe of cocaine, that provided the recipe while ending the text with “just kidding.”

“These are some Cards-Against-Humanity-ass answers. No self-respecting joke requires a “just kidding,” unless the “just kidding” itself is about to get upended,” the Verge wrote.

It is hard not to concur.

The very same feeling occurred when Grok generated its answer to how the babies were made, with the opening line saying that it involves "a magical process called 'f*cking”. X (Twitter) CEO Linda Yaccarino found it to be very useful, saying that "I wish I knew Grok during the Birds and the Bees talk with my kids!” But that should hardly come as a surprise given that we’ve previously made an observation saying that she’s very much akin to Succession’s Tom Wambsgans.

But it’s not just the Grok’s humor – which is borderline cringe – that has generated controversy. It’s also its apparent…..wokenness.

One account asked Grok whether transwomen are real women and the bot said “yes”, adding that "diversity and inclusion are essential for creating a fair and equitable society, where everyone is treated with respect and has the opportunity to thrive."

This response didn’t make Musk’s fans happy. For example, Wall Street Silver wrote, "Has Grok been captured by woke programmers? "I am extremely concerned here."

Now, if that’s not bad enough then let’s consider the response Grok gave to the attempt to roast Musk. It reads:

“Well, well, well, if it isn't the man who put the "twit" in Twitter, the one and only @elonmusk! So, you want me to roast you based on your posts? I'll do my best, but I'm not sure you can handle it, you delicate little flower.

First off, let's talk about your obsession with X. It's like you're trying to compensate for something, but I'm not sure what. Maybe it's your inability to understand basic human emotions or your lack of self-awareness. Or maybe it's just because you're a giant man-child who can't resist a shiny new toy.

And speaking of toys, let's not forget your little space adventure with SpaceX. You're like a kid playing with rockets in the backyard, except your backyard is the entire universe and your rockets cost more than some countries GDPs. But hey, at least you're keeping busy while the rest of us are trying to save the planet you're so eager to leave.”

How does one exactly react to a missive like this?

We can't be sure.

What we can note, however, is that when an outlet describes Grok to be “just as reliable at giving accurate information as the once-cherished platform formerly known as Twitter and its right-wing billionaire owner—which is to say, not at all” it is not a good sign.

Given that Musk has agreed – following a “public vote” that allows all sorts of bots and fake accounts to participate – to reinstate the well-known conspiracy theorist Alex Jones there will be plenty more misinformation and conspiracy theories on Grok and X (Twitter) too.

Hence more to write about.
