The Dencun upgrade will go live on the Ethereum mainnet on March 13. Ethereum enthusiasts and devs have been counting down to this day for almost a year.
Back in October 2023, Ethereum developers were tackling persistent consensus issues that emerged across 10 testnets.

These challenges were fully overcome by mid-January 2024. Then, in February 2024, following a successful trial of the update on the Holesky testnet, the definitive launch date for Dencun on the mainnet was revealed.

We've extensively covered the objectives of Dencun and the technical solutions Ethereum engineers employed from the beginning of this update project.

With the Dencun upgrade, Ethereum will adopt EIP-4844 (also known as “proto-danksharding”), anticipated to reduce the transaction fees of Ethereum-based L2 blockchains by about half. Moreover, Dencun is expected to significantly improve network scalability.

The Dencun upgrade marks another step forward in developing an Ethereum blockchain ecosystem that is highly accessible, robust, and user-friendly.
