The recent decision by Sui to replace airdrop as a means of distributing tokens to early testers with initial token sales on centralized exchanges such as OKX, Bybit, and Kucoin has sparked widespread disappointment among many supporters of the project. However, despite the concerns raised, the current situation remains unchanged.
The development team has divided the sales into two categories: General Sale with a token price of $0.1, and Recognition Sale with a token price of $0.03. The latter is only available to users who have been whitelisted, which requires being a member of the Discord community before February 1, 2023, and filling out a special form.

Surprisingly, Ukraine has been included in the list of countries where participation in the launchpads is prohibited due to sanctions and other reasons, which has sparked negativity in the Sui community chats. Bypassing the system is not possible as each participant needs to undergo full identity verification (KYC).

However, there is a ray of hope for Ukrainians. Continue reading for additional information and further details.

The latest crucial update

Firstly, news has come out about the upcoming launch of the mainnet, set to take place on May 3rd. Secondly, details have emerged regarding the whitelist selection process. Additionally, the team has announced the postponement of the Recognition Sale (exact date not specified) and commented on the situation regarding the ban on Ukrainians.

The selection process for participants in the Recognition Sale

Among all the applications for admission to the Recognition Sale, bots and duplicate registrations have been weeded out. A total of around 180,000 people participated. However, not everyone will have the chance to snag SUI tokens at the special price of $0.03. Only about 96,000 lucky winners will be randomly chosen using the Drand service (probably already selected by the time you read this). This means there’s about a 50% chance of getting in. The list of winners will be shared with the exchanges, and the selection process will be made public on Discord.

What's interesting is that the SUI whitelist sale won't be time-limited. If not everyone claims their allocation, other eager folks will get a shot at purchasing tokens by updating the list. On April 21st, those on the whitelist should receive an email notifying them of which exchange they can use to buy tokens. The developers caution everyone to be careful, as scam emails may also come through. If you have any doubts about the email's safety, it's best to reach out to the #support channel on the project's Discord.

Will Ukrainians Get Access to the Sale?

As mentioned earlier, the Sui team has provided comments on the situation involving the ban on citizens from certain countries, specifically Ukraine and its occupied territories:
We’ve experienced some operational challenges relating to certain countries, which contain sanctioned regions but are not entirely subject to sanctions. We are taking steps to find a compliant means of addressing these challenges. Allowlist participants from such countries may be subject to additional steps as part of this process. The Sui Foundation will provide information on what these extra steps are, once they are confirmed
This means that residents of Ukraine may need to provide additional information about their place of residence. It is also possible that residents of Crimea and other temporarily occupied territories may not be allowed to participate. However, these are currently speculations.
