Bitcoin is more ecofriendly than metallurgical production
Daniel Batten, a well-known environmental researcher and investor, proved that Bitcoin mining leverages 52.6% sustainable energy sources (solar, wind, hydropower, etc.), not 37.6%, as claimed by Cambridge scientists.
How did such a disparity in numbers emerge? As a matter of fact, traditional studies ignore:
- cloud mining;
- flare-gas mining;
- off-grid mining;
- shift of miners to less expensive renewable energy sources.
This leads Batten to the conclusion that there are no barriers to the institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies.
