Microsoft Corporation and the cross-chain protocol Axelar have declared a strategic alliance aimed at merging public and private blockchains. This collaboration positions the Axelar project on the Microsoft Azure platform, marking it as the first cross-chain protocol to be accommodated within the Microsoft developer store.
Axelar is a Web3 project that equips dApp developers with an infrastructure facilitating interaction with an extensive range of assets or programs across nearly any network. At present, Axelar supports 43 blockchains, with its Total Value Locked (TVL) surpassing $100 million (as per DefiLlama statistics).

Galen Moore, Axelar's spokesperson, expressed that this partnership will enable the project to engage with a multitude of companies utilizing the Microsoft Azure cloud services platform. Moore anticipates substantial potential in internet-based products establishing connections with public blockchains in a user-friendly manner.

Developers will gain access to Axelar's software development kit, AxelarJS, and its universal message-passing feature. This aids developers in seamlessly integrating capabilities, irrespective of the blockchain or database chosen.

One aspect of the collaboration will be focusing on the integration of both public and private blockchains to bolster artificial intelligence applications. This potential is promising, especially given Microsoft's multi-billion dollar deal with OpenAI and the integration of ChatGPT into their Bing search engine. Previously, we reported on the potential of utilizing blockchain technology in artificial intelligence.

Sergey Gorbunov, the co-founder of Axelar, believes that a combination of public and private blockchains can lay a foundation of trust, authenticate data integrity, ensure data storage in specific jurisdictions, and build trust amongst all users, irrespective of the data request source.

Presently, a trend is being noticed where Microsoft Azure is beginning to welcome crypto projects. Ankr Protocol, another blockchain infrastructure provider, has recently joined its ranks. More about this can be found in a separate article on our website.
